We got to ring in the New Year at one of our favorite places: The Sammons household (we were married in their garden). Since Franklin lives in New York and William is in California, we don’t get to see them often. It’s nice when they come into town, but hopefully we can make an effort to visit them this year! There are also folks in Maryland, Texas, NOLA, and Florida we need to visit.
Last night we rang in the New Year with raccoon feeding*, beer pong, a “Do You Realize?!” sing-a-long, loads of laughter, hilarious stories, Radiohead dancing, and great company. It was a low key night, but probably something we needed. We left their house around 1:30am and had a nice walk home as the temperature was very mild…it was nice. We got home around 2am just as the rain started pouring down (had no idea it was supposed to rain) and it was a wonderful sound to aid sleep.

Pacino was kind enough not to start chirping a 7am and we got to sleep in – a great way to start the New Year!

*apparently Mrs. Sammons has a soft spot for these two raccoons that showed up when they were little babies, and she’s been feeding them cat food lol

2011 was a whirlwind of excitement! Lots of great music, friends, trips, and laughs! You can check out the review of 2011 for more details.
2012 Resolutions
- Go on more walks, drink more tea/water

- Try to visit California, New York, or New Orleans this year…all three would be rad, but I’ll settle on one of these trips going through

- More Yoga!

- Put out a full length album

- Have at least one kick ass show in our new store

- Write at least five songs

- Adjust well to changes (mainly WRS related)

- Another label to want to put out Porcharitas (Vertical House Records obviously has dibs on the first EP but it would be exciting to be contacted by a favorite label ya?!)

- Keep up with my personal blogging (I’ve been doing this since 1999 and this past year was the first time I’ve ever missed TWO MONTHS of blogging. I need to step up! but omg tumblr is SOOOO easy!)

- Create even more hilarity with CBB/DWP

- Move past the bathroom from hell and see progress on our upstairs (plumbing, insulation, walls, floors, ceilings, doorways – lots to be done!)

- Vertical House Records to become one of the top ten stores in our region (no idea how to actually calculate this, but I think with the new space we’ll be a great contender to some of our neighboring stores in the South.)

- Go to the beach (this needs to be a “must” every year.)

I can’t believe another year is wrapped up. I still need to do my year in review post…even though I didn’t blog NEARLY as much. Kinda sad. You can bet that will be a resolution. Even if it’s just little updates. I miss the therapy blogging gives. Anyway, onto the list! I have no idea that anyone reads this, but if so – feel free to share your Best of list!

I’m a little late posting this, but it’s exciting to see our friends put out new music! I was stoked when Josh asked me to shoot their cover photo for the Bazooka album…and it came out AWESOME! I’m hoping to share all of the photos on White Rabbit Studios here soon, but for now here’s a shot of the album with my phone. I’m also including photos from the Bazooka and Nightmare Boyzzz record release show!

On December 23rd we had an in-store show with The Pine Hill Haints and Divine 6/7. Over 100 people came out to celebrate the holidays, and it was an absolute blast! It was a wonderful way to “kickoff” the party season with all of our friends!

an article in the paper about the show

Well, I just barely made a New Year resolution from 2011! I always like to put out a few “super fun goals” as resolutions in hopes the Universe will make it a reality. To me, it seemed like putting out an EP seemed farfetched since I wasn’t in a “real” band at that point (Matt and I had performed our Cute as Hell stuff a couple of times, but we knew that wasn’t going to take off).
Over the Summer there were jokes of a band called the Porcharitas that would be an all girl punk band. We had a few practices with our friends helping us write songs, but it still all seemed like a joke of sorts. However, we all began actually writing songs ourselves, and after a few changes in the line-up, finally formed a real group. We played a few shows that all got pretty positive feedback, and decided to record some songs. Right as the year is coming to an end, we shipped everything off to United last week to get our first EP pressed. Talk about last minute resolutions being met! Even though the 7″ isn’t actually in my hands, I’m still pretty stoked to have at least gotten the process started.
