The Beginning 11.09.

Let this blog post be the first scribbles of the direction I want to go. While I’ve collected supplies (chemicals, enlargers, equipment), and I’ve known that one day I will set up a dark room – I want to go beyond that. I want to photograph, develop, scan, and print my own everything. I want to extend White Rabbit Studios to be more than just a wedding and portrait photography businesses. I want to create genuine art with my hands – the entire process. Color and b/w film. While I’m already shooting with film (one of my goals met yay), but I currently send off the film for developing. I want everything I deliver to my clients to be handmade: from the prints, to the albums, to the boxes. The more I can do myself or locally, the better.

I’m in the beginning process of making this a reality and couldn’t be more excited! Of course, I have to remember to take deep breaths and have patience. I’ve been looking at studio spaces (at Lowe Mill, or course) – planning, scheming, and dreaming. I’m the type that as soon as an idea pops in my head, I’m ready to hit the ground running to make it happen. However, I’m giving myself about a year and a half to make this thought tangible – by the time I’m 30. I love having set goals and I realize that’s the best way Andy and I both are. We love working towards something and always having our minds focusing ahead. Ever since we’ve been together, it’s how we’ve grown all of our businesses. I feel like this is another stepping stone for our path. It’s always thrilling when the next milestone makes itself known to us.

Here’s to the future! Three cheers!

Beach Trip 2013 09.09.

I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since my toes were in the sand, but I wanted to blog this year’s beach trip before 2014 rolls around! Andy and I spent 5 days with our friends down in Destin, Florida! It was a BLAST! Last year we had several days of rain, but this year was SO sunny! It was pure bliss! Thanks to my handy dandy Instax and cell phone, I had fun documenting the trip!!

Day One
We got an early start to the trip and arrived at the beach early afternoon! The first night we stayed in a hotel since the condo wasn’t quite ready for us (but we were ready for the beach)! After cooling off with some beach drinks, we spent some time in the pool while we awaited all of our party to arrive before heading to dinner!

Day Two
We couldn’t get into the condo until the afternoon, so we spent most of the day at the condo’s pool – which is amazing! Once we could get in and unpack, we headed to the beach for a few hours before heading to dinner at Dewey’s (yuuuuuum)! Also, later that night, Adam proposed to Lindsey on the beach under the meteor shower – YAAAAAY!

Day Three
Up and at’em for a full day at the beach! The waves were fun, but not dangerous and it was great to be with such rad folks in the middle of the ocean! We hung out most of the day in the sand, went to dinner, and then some of us went down for Night Beach to watch the meteor shower – absolutely incredible!

(ENGAGED)!!

Day Four
ANOTHER FULL DAY AT THE BEACH! The sun was shining most of the day, until the evening brought in a small storm cloud. We opted to cook-in since it was the last night for some of our friends. We had a fun, relaxing evening in the condo…we all practically ate ourselves into a food coma – YUM!

Day Five
Since it was our last full day at the beach, Andy and I woke up super early and spent an entire 10 hours with our toes in the sand! It was one of the most wonderful things! It was SO relaxing! I took my chair out to a sand bar and now this is the place I go whenever I meditate – so beautiful and calm. Our last meal at the beach was a delicious Thai place down the street from the condo. We all crashed pretty early in order to wake up and get home before 5pm.

House Hoose Heese 04.08.

Slowly but surely progress has been coming along with our upstairs! Randall and his dad have been a HUGE blessing with helping us along and crossing off our to-do list! They did pretty much all of the “dirty” work. Everything from ripping out stuff that wasn’t needed anymore, to patching in flooring where wood had rotted away, to adding insulation, to hanging new drywall (nothing like that smell – smells like progress), to everything in between. They got us to the point where we could re-finish our hardwoods, which was a bitch – still is…we’re in the middle of that project currently.

Most of the photos from here on out will be taken with my phone since it’s a bit too dusty to bring up my “good” cameras. Once everything is done, I’ll have a good ole’ fashioned photo shoot with our beloved Shag Nasty.

saw, ripping up the rotted floor in the former bathroom, support joists added, NEW FLOORING IN PLACE!

upstairs landing back to original layout and the beginning of tearing down the drywall covering the gorgeous wood ceiling, INSULATION!, the to-do list, only way to get drywall in – through the upstairs window!

The full scene! This was SO nerve wracking to watch! One flick of the wrist and our entire front facade or porch roof could have been destroyed. The guys at Rocket City Drywall are AMAZING!

The sweet, sweet smell of new drywall!

painting what will be the office!, guest bedroom painted a lovely shade of mint, next up: ripping out the carpet, the beginning of a nightmare (first layer of carpet was easy…the second, not so much)

first glimpse of hardwoods!, whew…quite the project ahead of us, bedroom carpet ripped up…only to find this paper all over the floor, looked all over the internet to discover a wallpaper steamer is the best way to remove the tar paper!

the wallpaper steamer worked!, six hours later and we’ve got hardwoods!!, time to try in the office, Tiny fell asleep on the job lol

bustin’ out the big guns!, first run with the coarse paper

Photo a Day: July 2013 04.08.

As July normally does, we celebrated America’s Independence Day with our friends at a BBQ! The wedding season slowed down a bit, and there were some engagement sessions sprinkled in. Probably the most notable thing in July was us paying off our credit card! We are now 100% debt free and it feels like I’m 1000 pounds lighter! Wahoo!

Happiness is…SWIMMING!, shoes, cold (it was pretty cold when Andy and I went to Nottoway Plantation to capture the fashion shoot with Southern Bride magazine – it paid off! Landed the cover!), red/white/blue

love (house shows!), fav smell (summertime!), where I am (hanging out with this guy), path

3 things (1.We’re 2.Debt 3.FREE!), smooth, I wore this, “bad habit” (I take SO many sunset shots lol

4 o’clock, edible (cookbooks…close enough), outside the window, bottle (how about a vase)

inspirational (sweet, sweet love), number (first HSV food truck we tried), building, hot (mess)

fav food, grey, (I wish) I drew this, D is for…dreamy!

ground, everyday, black and white, this is new (ALICE IN WONDERLAND RECORD PLAYER OMG)!

Memphis Weekend Take Two 10.07.

Towards the end of June, Andy and I got the wonderful pleasure of traveling to Memphis once again to capture a lovely wedding! This go-round, we didn’t stay as long, but got in lots of record shopping, antique store digging, and visiting the Stax Museum! It was SUCH a wonderful trip!! The night of the wedding, we went to grab some dinner and discovered one of the BEST restaurants I’ve ever tried (Areapa & Salsa) and! I had a delectable dish of fried plantain (which served as the “bread”) for eggplant and beans (called the Veggie Queen Arepa). If you’re ever in the Memphis area, I definitely recommend this place! YUM!

The two lovebirds and a shot of the groom’s epic Lord of the Rings cake!

Photo a Day: June 2013 01.07.

June continued the busy wedding season – with TWO weddings in Memphis (yay road trips – one and two)! We also got a lot of hard work done on our house – that WE actually did…mainly the floors, but still! It was pretty rough. It’s a pretty huge undertaking, but every minute of the labor will be worth it when we can enjoy the upstairs all finished!

B is for… (the bridge Andy ate!), a moment, on my table (since our dining room table is covered with stuff during this restoration, we eat in the bedroom…so these clean sheet are on our “table”), after dark

environment, transport (back in time when I had blonde hair!), bright, animal

from down low, you, something funny (??), 11 o’clock

kitchen, texture, from above, family

centered, street (stood in the street to take that shot), currently reading (Brides Magazine, which featured Elizabeth & Michael’s wedding – eeeep internationally published now!), cute (new biz cards)!

lunch (picked some lavender at lunch!), enjoying life (seeing Kepi Ghoulie live in our store!), last (day in Memphis), negative space

sharp, empty (steamer needed to get re-filled so I snapped a pic), into the sun, red

in my bag (tea bag?), handwriting (on the back of that postcard and on the inside of the thank you card)

And here is the month of January, February, March, April, and May!

Memphis Weekend Take One! 12.06.

The first weekend in June I had a lovely wedding in Memphis! Andy and I decided to get up their early the day before and explore the city some. We also stayed for a night after the wedding to sight see a bit more! It was SO much fun! Even though it’s not a faraway getaway, it’s always just so much fun to discover new places together! We visited the Sun Recording Studio, which was incredible! We also stopped in to some of our favorite record shops, vintage stores, and food places! It was a nice and relaxing trip!

It’s a pretty easy drive and straight shot to Memphis, passing lots of gorgeous scenery!

Photo a Day: May 2013 01.06.

May was SLAMMED with weddings – each and every single one of them were beautiful and incredible! I still have to pinch myself when I realize that my job(s) are actually fun! There wasn’t much time outside of shooting and editing, but I always somehow manage to snap some personal photos. Oh, and house work continued…which is great! Maybe we’ll actually have an entire house by the Holiday season – fingers crossed!! I miss decorating my house! 🙂

I bought this (well, technically these new floors were given to us by our dear friend Rita!), morning ritual, this is really good (my friends’ band!), in my cup

paper (photo card of a HSV photog circa 1889!), broken (not really broken, but a house near us that needs work – REALLY hope it gets restored!), something beginning with “F” (feline!), shape (squares)

snack, stars, smile (the happy couple, Carly and Matt!), a mother (I’m a “mother” to 3 kitties!)

something I care about (records!), change (look past the kitty creepin’ and see our newly revealed wooden ceilings!), PJs (I’m wearing them in this pic…you just can’t see them past my catbeard), go (sun going behind the horizon)

us, favorite thing to do on Sunday (capturing love birds!), can’t live without (the sun), what I’m doing (painting the office!)

kiss (I could kiss this sky!), tool, four things (four paint colors?)

And here is the month of January, February, March, and April!

Photo a Day: April 2013 02.05.

The most exciting thing about April every year is Record Store Day!!! The 2013 celebration was AWESOME! The rest of the days in April were fun, but the 20th definitely was the highlight of the month!
