The most exciting thing in August was the beach trip, by far. I completely failed to remember to actually take a photo a day according to “the list”…so here’s the month one day at a time!

It has been a little over a year since our last beach break! A couple of weeks ago we ventured to Destin with the same Beach Crew to celebrate the final sha-bang of Summer. Just like last time, I only brought my Instax camera and phone to document the trip.
This trip was wonderful and gave Andy and I a lot of time to think about ideas for the future. We had some fantastic discussions with the setting sun as the background and the sounds of waves crashing between mini epiphanies. It’s always hard returning home from vacation, but at least we can start looking forward to next year! (Although we are returning to the beach in September for a dear friend’s wedding – CAN’T WAIT!)

This year we rode down with friends, and had the entire backseat to ourselves! Loads of giggles on the car ride!

Made great timing to the condo!

metal as fuck!

DAY ONE
There’s nothing quite like waking up next to some of your best friends AT THE BEACH. Once everyone was awake, we headed down to the ocean. It was a full day of bobbing, jumping waves, and drinking beers. As the day grew to a close, storm clouds rolled in. We all opted to eat at one of favorite spots that night, Dewey’s. Although the wait is always long, it’s totally worth it.

morning sweet friends!

Frandopus!
DAY TWO
We only got a bit of beach time before the rain decided to play all day. We spent a lot of time in the pool, then opted to get fresh seafood and have a shrimp broil. Travis and Adam were (are) excellent chefs! Super spicy noms made for a great ending to a rather dreary day.

DAY THREE
Since the rain was still lingering, we took our time getting up and to the Donut Hole. After a delicious breakfast, the rain cleared enough to get some beach time in! We ended the night with more yummy food from the Back Porch.

DAY FOUR
Hands down, one of the best days at the beach! Similar to our first day, we spent the entire afternoon battling waves. This time, the flags were red, which made for some bumpy and fun rides. Since the rain stayed at bay during sunset, Andy and I were finally able to get in a nice, long walk admiring the beach and talking about a variety of things. While we were having our “date”, our friends had started prepping for the final shrimp boil. The final night is always bittersweet. While it’s awesome to return to our house, store, kitties, and families, it’s always sad saying by to the beach. At least there’s next year to look forward to!

lol my husband is the Coppertone Baby!
DAY FIVE
Waking up to a beautiful day at the beach, knowing you have to leave, is torture. We spent the morning cleaning the condo and packing up the last of everything. Instead of teasing ourselves with the sand and sea, we all decided to just go ahead and get on the road.

Bye beach!

home by sunset!

July was such an exciting month! Andy and I photographed for Southern Bride magazine, saw King Tuff (and Natural Child again), hosted a show with the badass D. Watusi and Paperhead, hosted another show with Dent May, and had loads of random fun! Here were the 31 days in July…well, actually 30!

The second week of July was one of the most exhilarating ever. Andy and I started the week in Gorham’s Bluff to photograph the fashion spread for Southern Bride’s Winter/Spring issue coming out. It was absolutely incredible! We had one of the bridal suites in the main lodge, the food was delicious, and I was in absolute heaven shooting such fabulous dresses. Everyone was so kind, and such a pleasure to work with! It was great to put a face and personality behind some of the folks I had been in contact with, and all of the new folks we met were SO warm and welcoming!
After a few days of shooting, Andy and I had a chance to drop off our luggage and cameras before heading to Nashville for an UH-MAZING show: King Tuff and Natural Child. I thought I would be totally exhausted by the time the bands started, but as soon as the guitar was strummed I had an instant rush!
Tiny helping us pack!

on the road, pit stop for lunch…at the restaurant we went to on our first “date, not date”

I can’t really complain when the first day of July was spent in a pool with some of my favorite people on the planet! Let’s back track one month as June brought LOADS of fun times: Porcharitas music video shoot, United Record Pressing tour & Black Lips live at Third Man Records, baseball, swimming, the Transit of Venus, and the first ever HAPPENIN FEST…which was beyond amazing! So blessed to be surrounded by like minded, music lovin folks who want to bring something awesome to Huntsville every year!

I was blown away when J.D. asked if we wanted to shoot a Porcharitas music video! After seeing how rad the Really Loud Hamburgers video came out (and all of the other projects I’ve worked with hi on), how could we refuse?! It was a wonderful collaboration between so many of our friends. I am constantly amazed at how talented my peers are, and it’s always so inspiring!
We met a couple of times with story board ideas, came up with a basic outline, and then came the fun! Dustin drew all of the props, furniture, and posters – basically EVERYTHING. J.D. had them enlarged and printed, and we all spent the few days before the shoot cutting, pasting, building, and dressing the set. It was an absolute blast shooting the video, and super exciting to have our friends involved in one GIANT pillow fight! There was a feather cannon and everything!
You can see the full set of photos (thanks to Andy and Dustin who shot when I couldn’t) here. Below are some of my personal favorites!

…and here are some of the instagrams from the shoot!

I love spontaneous trips! The day after the Porcharitas music video shoot Andy and I traveld with our friends David and Ellis to Nashville for a day! We visited the United Record Pressing plant and got an amazing tour from our friend Brent. After grabbing grub, we went to the live recording show of Black Lips at Third Man Records. I have such appreciation for Jack White’s entire vision, and I’m always so impressed how he raises the bar. You can find the Super Fancy Fotos of the United tour on my WRS site, but here are the cell phone snaps I captured throughout the trip:

I’m intrigued by the astros, and have been for as long as I can remember. In fact, one of my first memories (I was five) is falling asleep under the stars. There has always been an intense comfort in thinking of the skies above and around us. I’ve had “Venus!!” marked on my calendar for almost a year anticipating the Transit of Venus. Thankfully, we have NASA in our backyard, so of course The Space and Rocket Center was having a free event to celebrate. There were telescopes set up, as well as projections, to view Venus crossing the Sun. It was incredible. Sure, it was a black dot moving across a larger orange spot in the images…but to know that’s fucking Venus crossing the fucking Sun is mind-blowing. It was surreal seeing such an occurrence!

To finish off the day, we (appropriately) went to a Stars game!

HELLO JUNE! I know I have said this every month, but seriously – where has the time gone?! It’s JUNE already?! We’re half way through our last year on Earth! jk? Anyway, May. May was lots of fun! Andy and I celebrated our sixth year of marriage, shot our first wedding together (IT WAS A BLAST!), had a wonderful retreat, threw a fun show, and hung out in truck pools.
I took a photo every day in May, according to her challenge.
