Renovation Day One 13.01.

The top layer of wood that made up the lower back roof was completely rotten. We now have new roof, sheathing, flashing, and shingles. No more leaks!

And this is the very raw beginnings to Vertical House as a record store. We have to wait to hear what pans out with all of this inspectors and fire safety before the walls can go up.

Last night The Counterclock Wise played at The Tavern. It was an awesome show. What was even better is it wasn’t overcrowded, therefore not as much smoke. We got a video of most of the show, however it’s not that exciting, seeing as how the camera had to sit in one place all night…but the sound is great.
I can’t wait for the trailer for The Year of the Gun to be finished.
Our record store has been put on hold. Not our fault though, phew! The Flying Monkey has to pass a couple of inspectors’ tests before we can build any more walls up there. And with thousands of dollars invested into merchandise, we can’t risk all of that with the fenced in cage spaces they have available right now. We do have a space picked out though, so that’s exciting. Hopefully it’ll only take a month at most before we can continue.
However, this down time will be used to pick back up working on our house. Our loan has been secured, so as of today we are back on track. Now that the demo is done, it’s time for the $$$ stuff to start. I’ve been having the most intense dreams about what colors to pain the rooms, how to arrange them, what built-ins need to go where, etc. It’s exciting and nerve wrecking.

In April some members of Crash Boom Bang are going on tour with The Counter Clockwise to perform The Year of the Gun. It’s a ‘battle operata’ that Matt and Ben have been writing. It’s going to be awesome. We’ll perform it at The Flying Monkey before taking it on the road…which includes Austin and New Orleans (eee!!)
Yesterday, we filmed what will soon become the trailer for the event. The weather was perfect for dressing up like a sex driven woman warrior and running around in the dirt. I felt like a kid again, but this time with more toys – fog machines, shop vacs, guns, and a video camera.
Last night we went to a Havoc hockey game. Upon entering the arena, there was a huge banner that said “Welcome to Hurtsville, Alabama.” wow, just wow. Franklin and William got 7 free box seats, so the group of us had a blast. I hadn’t been to a hockey game since Jessica Crowe days (middle school) when we used to go almost every week. However, this time I got to enjoy the $2 Yuengling…huzzah! The final score was 7 (Havoc) to 4 (Pee Dee Cyclones…Pee Dee?!?!) Since the Havoc scored more than 4 goals, everyone there got a free cheezy bread coupon from Domino’s. That’s a lot of cheezy bread.

After the game, we went back to the Sammons’ house before heading downtown for a bit.

Had fun times out with Dana, Kelly, QUIGGY!, Andy, and whoever else was with us different nights…Dana has more pictures (and videos) of events during the nights. Reminder to self to copy those before she heads back to Marshall (boo! she needs to move back here!)

My parents and sister have one of the cutest kitties! Her name is Kari. She’s hardly ever still…always full of energy. Apparently, she’s been sneaking treats off their kitchen countertops and also sharing some with Major (the dog). They’re a tag team.

Maple is obsessed with drawer’s of clothes. Every time one is opened, she’s in it burrowing herself in the back corner. Sadie has become more of a priss. She watches Maple play all day, only occasionally joining in for a tiny second.
