Maple leads the way! To the left, you can see the raised garden beds. On the other side of those is where the Heirloom garden has been started.
I want to do something with this path…maybe some sort of trellis system with grapes, vines, and climbing plants to create a passage way. I don’t know yet, but I’m open to suggestions!
Maple says meow! We’re trying to spruce up the area under our kitchen window with plants. We’ve got a bunch of Irises that came from our first house, but we planted some seeds here, so I need to see what they do before transplanting the Irises to this location.
This is Maple’s favorite outside spot. She’ll roll around on these steps for hours haha.
One of the aforementioned Irises, which now actually has three beautiful blooms!
Clematis vine! I can’t wait until the flowers appear…this has become on of my favorite things in our yard.
I always forget about Wardrobe Remix…until Summer comes and I can wear my favorite dresses again!

Until our garden gets to producing food, Andy and I have wanted to start going to local farmers’ markets to get fresh produce and such. However, the only one nearby was still 20 minutes away in Madison and completely out of the way from the record store. But, we were willing to make that trek…
UNTIL NOW! Last week, I was heading to my office on Bob Wallace, when I noticed right on the corner of Governor’s and the parkway, Ayers Farm had opened a market again (they used to have one further South on the Parkway)! Since our store is located off of Governor’s, this is absolutely perfect for us!

We’ve already been able to harvest quite a bit from the garden!
Our first batch of strawberries!
Drying Catmint…we have SO MUCH!
Maple sat on this pile of catmint for quite some time. She would rub her face in it, look up, meow, and then bury her face again. It was adorable.
Clockwise from Left: St. John’s Wort, Oregano, Cat Mint leaves, Cat Mint flowers
We moved one of the couches off of our front porch. We plan on getting this one re-upholstered and instead of taking the HEAVY thing all the way up the stairs, we left it standing upright in the landing. Trust me, you would have too. Now it’s a new favorite spot for the kitties, particularly Maple.

Watering the side and front yard to help our trees and four o’clocks grow.
Our elephant ears are coming up! We planted these late last year, so it’ll be nice to have a full season to enjoy them!
Here you can see where the soaker hose has been wound around to reach all of the holes we dug for our Heirloom seeds…which we have several seedlings growing. Also, we planted things in the raised beds where stuff hasn’t come back from last year. And you can see where we fixed our asparagus so it doesn’t look as ghetto. That guy is now 6 feet tall!
Our grapevine (and bird netting).
bike ride sightings
The Kildare Mansion
Went by Lewter’s Hardware to get garden staples to hold down the soaker hose and saw our kitty friend, Buffy, which you might remember from this photo:
She’s SO adorable! And friendly!
Stopped by Garden Cove to pick up some Tea Tree Oil for my sun fungus on my back (lol). I had this two years ago on my neck and it appeared right before we went on the Year of the Gun tour so I was freaking out thinking it was something horrible. Went to the doc, told me what it was, prescribed some cream (that was riddled with parabens ew) so this year, when it came back, I did my own research and apparently Tea Tree Oil helps! So, we’ll see!

On Tuesday night we had a Welcome Home BBQ for Thomas Function since they just got in from a month long European tour. The BBQ was a lot of fun, and it’s always good to be surrounded by such great friends. At first, their plane wasn’t arriving until 8 or 9 that night, but somehow they scored a flight that landed at 5:45pm. We had porcharitas flowin’ so that always makes for a HILARIOUS night.
Our house was in no condition to have people over, so Andy and I spent Monday cleaning, pruning, pulling, re-arranging, scrubbing, washing, etc everything from the top to bottom. We cleaned up our yard (hence the pruning and pulling) even though most of the festivities would be held on the porch and inside…it was still nice to have everything neat and tidy.
Our porch!
Dining room! We finally got a small desk to put our computer on (it actually was in this house when Andy’s dad bought it back in the 70s and was being stored at his parents’ house…they cleaned it out and gave it to us). Now our dining room table can actually be used as it’s supposed to. Also, that has become one of Maple’s favorite spots now.
Living room…not much has changed since the last time I photographed it.
I know you can’t really see it in these photos, but I found the scarf-now-window-treatment at Karma Rags (a vintage clothing shop in Lowe Mill) and I had to have it since it’s just about everything we did in Nassau on our honeymoon! I know it won’t be the permanent window treatment, but I love it for now! It lets in a TON of light, but still gives us plenty of privacy.
So, a year or two ago, Nichole and I wrote a song while riding with Thomas Function in their crazy van to a show in Madison. It’s called “And Danse” and it’s a really catchy song. We’ve carried this “joke song” on over to the present time and STILL find funny verses to add. Recently, we talked about actually doing something with it and creating a band group. So we did! It’s called Cute As Hell and it features me (Gashley), Nichole (Nico), and Ashley Regan (Trashley) as the singers and so far, Matt Bakula as our DJ (DJ Throwin’ Stars, to be exact). We actually recorded a song last night and it was so much fun! We’re going to try to make this a “summer project” and see where it goes…hopefully global lol! Anyway, we had a mini photo session the night of the BBQ.
In that last photo, I was super excited for potato salad haha

Strawberry! Our first one of the season! Last year the birds got to them before we could, so now we’ve put down a bird net so we can enjoy the tasty treats for ourselves. Sorry birds!
Rigged Asparagus. Our asparagus bush has surpassed me, and I’m 5’2″…for now, we’ve rigged up unused tomato cages to prop these suckers up. Hopefully next week we’ll be able to concoct something a bit better than this…especially since the plants stubbornly fall in between the cages.
Infinity*
*Ok so, there’s a “positive thinking exercise” that I saw while watching a DVD about the TED conference. Basically, you take your life motto, cut out certain letters, re arrange some things to eventually form a basic symbol for you to “put forth” in life. My life motto formed the infinity symbol. If you know me well enough, you know I’m already obsessed with this symbol (I have it tattooed on my hip and engraved in my wedding band), so I about flipped out when I figured that my motto formed this symbol! I can’t for the life of me remember who was speaking this awesome speech…I know he had a crazy hot Scottish accent and he wrote a famous graphic novel. But anyway, after passing by at least 50 “natural occurring” infinity signs that I came across randomly, I have finally decided to start photo documenting them. Once I saw this string lying in the beautiful figure 8, I knew I had to start now or I’d eventually kick myself later. So here’s the start to a new, ongoing project. Now, I know when you start looking for patterns and reoccurring things in life, that they will all of a sudden “appear” to you more, but that’s what I’m after! Plus, it’s fun…and I’ve been enamored with the infinity sign since it first appeared in math.
