Huntsville in the Spring 13.04.

Yesterday Andy and I went on a long walk around Five Points and downtown to hang fliers for Record Store Day. It was such a nice walk, and the city looked beautiful with all of Spring in the air! It felt nice taking a break of photographing subjects who knew they were being shot, and focusing on the unsuspecting flowers and houses throughout Huntsville.

BETTY!

While on our walk home we saw Dustin driving with Betty on their way to get tags for his car. We ended up taking Betty on the rest of our walk so she wouldn’t have to sit in the hot car and wait. She’s such a sweet dog!

That house belongs to our friend Patrick(‘s parents) who just recently moved to New York. He’s a wonderful artist, so I hope he pursues that while in the Big City. Their home is LOVELY!!

We drive by this house whenever we go to the store. I love their tulips! So much, in fact, it inspired us to plant some! They are coming up, but we might not see the this year.

garden life! 13.04.

Andy and I have been diligently working in the garden. We have a lot more time this year than we did last year…at least it feels that way. We have been getting up around 7am to do any planting or weeding, so everything can get watered before the midday sun hits.

Strawberry Fields Forever

Bleeding Hearts

bleeding hearts! I’m especially proud to show off this plant because we planted in it the ground as our first part of our “ultimate side shade garden” and it came back! We thought it was a goner, but voila! Yay!

Yellow Jasmine Vine

oh yellow jasmine…how I love thee! We had a bad wind storm come through and knock down our one year old vine, but it still flourished this spring with lots of blooms! And it’s growing so much! I definitely recommend this if you’re looking for a climbing vine. Not to mention the fragrance…it’s smells SO good!

Kitties!

Sadie

Tiny!

The only bad thing about gardening are not being able to let the kitties out to enjoy the weather with us. It wasn’t bad keeping track of Sadie and Maple in the yard last year, but with Tiny being so young and FAST, I don’t think it’s worth it. She’d slip through the fence in no time! Plus, we haven’t gotten her fixed yet, so I don’t want her to run off and end up preggers. Which reminds me I need to add “get Tiny fixed” to our rather large to-do list.

Mondaze! 13.04.

Summertime Mondays are the best! We’ve been having porch parties, shows, and occasionally throwing in a margarita or two. These shots are all from the past few Mondays. I’ve been behind on uploading my own photos, so there will be at least one more post today!

Happy Birthday Ellis! 13.04.

We helped throw my friend Ellis a surprise party for her birthday! She thought she was just coming over to Ashley and Meredith’s house to cook dinner, and lo and behold – dinner was ready and a cake had her name on it! Ashley, Meredith, and Ellis are all AMAZING cooks and we had the most delicious swiss cheese and bacon dip, shrimp pasta salad, (I made meatballs mmm), and of course an awesome cake!

Happy Birthday Ellis!

Dustin made the sign!

This Summer Will Be RAD! 09.04.

Oh man…just in time. I was beginning to go a little stir crazy! I’ve missed the CBB folks! What’s even more exciting is Crash Boom Bang and the Dead Workers Party are coming together to make this summer a blast! We have 3 (or 4?) shows scheduled each month so it should be tons of fun! People are pumping out skit ideas and they are hilarious!

We’re doing the show in connector “lounge” on the first floor, so this will be a totally new experience for everyone. Matt came over last week sometime and we shot the pic for the flyer. Well, actually it was just supposed to be for facebook, but it ended up getting used as the flyer. Matt started out in some boring black shorts that just weren’t working for the ideas we had, so he cut off some old jeans and I gave him a bottle of wine…and one shocker later – VOILA! A flyer! Initially he wanted to go outside and take the photo, but we were getting a new roof, so I think he got a little shy. He didn’t really want to be in the backyard in some short shorts taking photos haha!

Rehearsals start next week and I couldn’t be more ready!

Record Store Day @ Vertical House Records!

Join Vertical House Records on Saturday, April 17th from 11am to 6pm to celebrate the best day of the year – RECORD STORE DAY! We are excited to be a part of this again. Record Store Day started back in 2007, the year we opened our doors! Three years later we’re still going strong…in fact, we’ve expanded to a bigger spot in our beloved Lowe Mill. We look forward to seeing you this year and hope you’ll spend Record Store Day with us!

Busy like bees in the Spring 29.03.

Good grief Life…you are speeding by! Things around here are super busy! We’ve officially moved our store to the new place (pics coming soon)! It’s awesome to have more space, and now a window to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine! I can’t believe I haven’t posted any photos, but it was a rather hectic move. And it happened before we thought it would. We went up to the mill (sans camera) to help Cat move everything out of the Virago space, and before we knew it Greg and Andy had the metal in place, and the record shelves in the new space. There were several friends helping, so it only took about 5 hours to move everything over and get it in place. We are still working on a couple of projects to get the store exactly the way we want it, but it’s great to be operating out of there already!

And to break in the new space, we are having a show this Tuesday…and it will be SO fun!

I’ve been super busy getting Hi-Fi Weddings out of my head and into the crazy world of wedding sites, and it’s working out nicely! I’m meeting some insanely talented photographers, awesome brides and grooms, and wonderful vendors that are all super stoked to help me out and contribute to the site. It’s been so exciting, and I’m super glad I’ve finally got it going!

**********************************************

One of the sweet souls I’ve met through this venture is Amy, and she has a great site called Old Sweet Song and she featured us and our various projects 🙂

Speaking of our house…we’re getting a new roof right now. I forgot how loud it is! Even with a second floor between us! Sadie and Maple have resided under the bed mainly, and Tiny is attached to Andy’s chest. I’m glad we arranged it to happen when we would be home. Not only are the cats scared (and occasionally come out to be pet before a loud bang scares them back under the bed), but two bricks fell all the way down the chimney to our bedroom and dining room (they share a shaft). We knew we needed some masonry work done, but that scared me. It sounded like our chimney was about to collapse. It happened because they were working on the flashing around the chimney. I guess now we need to get everything looked at sooner than later.

BUT MAYBE JUST MAYBE we’ll win something from This Old House’s contest! We submitted our kitchen remodel, and there’s a change to win $10k. With that we’d probably be able to address the chimney and get the electrical work finished upstairs! I’m gonna keep my feet on the ground for this, but a gal can dream right?! 🙂

2am Walks 15.03.

Friday night we went to a show at the Tavern (VooDoo Lounge, whatever) to see Puppy Hearts and Negative Cells (TT & Raidy’s new band). The night ended up being a long one with loads of fun! TT came up to the store, and we hung out there until about 9, then went to Franklin’s for a bit before the show, walked downtown around 10:30, left the bar around 1…hung out for a while at Patrick’s house (where Ashley and Dustin were house-sitting) before making our walk home around 2am.

I love walking home! It’s usually hilarious conversation between us, or we do spontaneous things that I can’t quite share with the whole wide internet. Now that the weather is getting better, I’m excited to have more walks home late at night.

Hurray for the Riff Raff 15.03.

Whenever Hurray for the Riff Raff comes to town, they bring with them everything I love about New Orleans. I swear it just seeps from their pores (ew?!) but yeah. While they didn’t travel with as many of the band members this time, it still made for a great show. They just released their new album, and it’s fantastic. I only have a couple of shots because I watched the show from the sound booth, and then my camera battery went dead.
