This is long overdue, as the record show was on May 2nd…however, that’s the way it is. This month I have taken no less than 5,000 photos. I’m just now getting time to BLAHg about them, before starting again and shooting straight through the rest of the month. But this is May! The month to do it all! Including our anniversary (which is Thursday yay!) I decided today I want to make a playlist of the last 4 years of music we’ve loved…so I gotta get on that.
Anyway, this was May 2nd. A cloudy Sunday full of records and crawfish!

This place was awesome! The food was delish and the beer was cheap!

I was contacted by Utterly Engaged about doing an interview of sorts with them for possible coverage in their next issue! Along with a fun questionnaire, they also wanted some photos of me and Andy in our store. I’m really not much into posed shots. Aside from our family pictures and a few “formal” portraits, most every shot at our wedding was a candid…which I love! So when we had to do a photo shoot in our store I knew there would be some silly shots. Stephanie was out of town with her family, so I had to enlist our friend Dustin to take the shots. There’s a couple of “normal” shots, but for the most part – this is how we are.

I keep meaning to go through and show more recent “stuff” we’ve collected decor details. Our house needs a good cleaning, so hopefully we’ll be able to today after the store since it’s supposed to be super dreary. And maybe once the sun comes back out the house will be clean enough for a photo shoot!

This Mad Men-esque clock doesn’t work, but it was only fifty cents so it basically just sits and looks pretty!

Tiny will sit on these blue chairs when we come in and then jump onto Andy.

Ridiculously bright unicorn pillow that was only a quarter.

Pic of Maple and 50s decorating book.

Mapes!

On Thursday night CBB and DWP opened the first Short Shorts show of the season. We have two more (I think) throughout the summer…all different shows! This first one got a lot of great reviews and the audience laughed a lot…which is always good haha. We actually performed the show downstairs, so we didn’t have our tradition lights/sound set-up. Andy and Eric were in charge of sound and they were off to the side so we couldn’t get any photos from the actual show. I shot the dress rehearsal, so here are some of the visuals of the craziness!

A couple of weeks ago I found an adapter on B&H Photo that allows me to use my 35mm lenses on my DSLR. This was a HUGE find for me, because I have way more invested in older glass than I do with this “new” camera. Well, the adapter was $300 on B&H, and I looked around on ebay to see if I could find one for cheaper, and BAM – 99 cents! The seller was from Hong Kong, so after sending $5 (shipping) I crossed my fingers that this was the real deal.
Last week it came in the mail! I took some shots of our store to get used to it, cause I lose all auto focusing when I’m using the 35mm lenses. I didn’t realize my camera battery was on it’s last leg, so I didn’t get to play with it as much as I wanted to. Then I had a wedding on this past Saturday to shoot, so I still haven’t gotten a chance to play with it more, but I’m pretty happy with the results from the first go-round.
After May (we have a wedding every weekend, so I’ll have the funds) I’m investing in a new camera system. I’m leaning towards the Canon 5d (Mark II if I can swing it), but I’m STOKED that this adapter worked! I’m hoping with my new system, I can just invest in my favorite lens, and be able to use my Olympus with all of the other lenses I gained with this adapter (two zooms, two 50mm, maco, etc). I’m hoping this will keep me settled for a while. I think my overall dream with White Rabbit Studios is if I can shoot with the film cameras I have and do 8 and Super 8mm video. However, Huntsville doesn’t have a huge market for these things, so I don’t think it’s a good idea to spend my efforts focusing on that right now. I think once Steph and I have our portfolio exactly where we want it and we continue to draw the clients we are most interested in, THAT will be the time to focus on the film side of it all. We’ll see though…who knows. I love the convenience and ease of digital photography, but there’s nothing like getting a roll of film developed!
Anyway, on to the first round of test shots (also, this is the new store location in the photographs yaaaay):

…and one of Jones Valley haha

Crash Boom Bang and Dead Workers Party joined forces last night to film one of the skits for the upcoming Short Shorts show on April 29th. It’s called Extreme Caviar…and I’ll let this pics and videos speak for themselves. Needlesstosay, and despite the sticky mess, it was totally fun!!

These next shots came directly from the Red One camera J.D. was using to film the skit:

This past Monday night we had an awesome show in our store with one of our favorite bands, The Box Elders. Our friends have started a new band called Really Loud Hamburgers and they played…as well as Ursa Locomodus (from Muscle Shoals). Things got a bit hectic that night and I think some people had TOO much fun. The worst thing that happened in the store was someone getting sick on the floor…luckily nothing got on records whew! Everything else crazy happened after people left the show, thankfully.

I only got one shot of Really Loud Hamburgers

Tuesday night we had our friends Robert, Chirag and Nancy over for dinner. Stephanie and I shot Chirag and Nancy’s Hindu wedding last August, so it was great getting to see them while they were in town! Steph and Sean couldn’t make it because Jasper wasn’t feeling so hot. But we all had a great time and the food was wonderful! Chirag and Nancy whipped together a super easy Indian dish. Basically you chop up your favorite veggies, place them atop some Behl (kinda like rice krispies), finish it off with a chutney and an apple butter sauce. It was delicious, easy, and would make a wonderful Summer BBQ option!
