Even though it is snowing outside right now, I still have Spring on my mind. Maybe cause I hear it’s supposed to be in the 60’s on my birthday (next week) so I’m really looking forward to that! Sunshine and nice weather would be a wonderful gift! The last time it got so pretty out (a couple of Sundays ago) we looked at out planting calendar and noticed it was a good day to plant seeds. Neat! So we did!

We planted tulips in the fall, and the first sprout has popped up! Hopefully this burst of cold weather doesn’t scare them away. Now I can’t even remember what colors they are…I think red and yellow.

I can’t wait to have our porch full of friends!

It looks like Vertical House Records will have a new place…and sooner than we thought! We are just moving across the hall from where we are now, but this will be a big move. I think we’ll have just the right amount of space. And I think this is the step we need to take. Even though we dreamed big about getting that building, something seemed to have kept me from making all the calls about getting a loan. And then this came available, so it seems to be a sign to stay at the mill for now. We can still dream about the building, and who knows – it might come to us sooner than we think. However, I think I would miss the mill WAY too much. I have a total architecture crush on that place. And now we are going to have one of the big, awesome windows I love so much! I’m hoping to take some ‘before’ shots of the new space this week. Here are some shots of our store right now, as is – crammed and all!

walking in, this is what you first see

I almost missed this! Thanks to Steph for pointing out that our house was featured on Apartment Therapy! That’s twice now! I had been contacted by Sarah (the author of the post) a bit ago and she told me they were going to feature it, but I wasn’t sure when!
lol after reading all those comments, I should make a point to snap a few shots with the curtains un-tied. People have made comments about it before when I posted in SaucyDwellings, but in all honesty, I always forget about them when I decide to photoshoot the house. We tie then back for three reasons: to let the kitties have a place to sit…and for Tiny not to climb (yep, they are the first reason haha), to let light in, and because it’s cheap and easy – no hardware or anything. And it lets in way more light than just pushing them aside. I know I don’t have to “defend” myself on this issue…it’s more of an explanation and me talking to myself about how I should photograph at least one shot with them down.

We’ve been having snow days here and there…along with the rest of the country. I read that one day there was snow on the ground in 49 out of 50 states. Lucky Hawaii! As pretty as snow is (even though here it always turns to mush) I’m so ready for Spring and Summer. I’ve always been a fan of the Summer, but now more than ever! I think we are supposed to plant our seedlings soon. I need to figure that out, cause maybe that will bring a little joy to these dreary days!

I miss our yard when it was full of plant life!

One of Tiny’s favorite place is by the radiant heater in the kitchen. She sits right against it! When we pick her up to cuddle, she’s always so warm…and cute!

…and speaking of kitties, they loved the tulips Andy got me for Valentine’s Day!

And here they are all cuddled on the couch. And while they aren’t really cuddling with each other, but I think it’s only a matter of time. By the way, you can barely see her, but Tiny’s ears are just poking out of the blanket pile.

It’s official. All of our kitties love the tub. They play in it (sans water), they watch us when we bathe (creepy?), and Tiny will actually paw at the water a lot.

…and Tiny’s newest obsession is playing with the toilet paper. We’ve come home several times to the last photo above. One time, she even did it right after we put on a brand new roll. Oh well, at least it’s a cheap toy!

Oh estate sales…how I love thee! Let me count the ways! Cheap, awesome, true vintage finds. Can’t get any better than that. We’ve been finding lots of gems at some sales, and while I’ve tried to photograph everything I can think of, I’ve already noticed some things I forgot to shoot. Honestly, 90% of our decor comes from estate/yard sales and the thrift store. I’m going to try to get better about documenting the details and how we incorporate them into our house…cause I’m constantly changing things.

I was so excited to find this pumpkin pie baking dish because we have a matching pecan pie dish! And these are two of our favorite pies so this is awesome. Now I’m kinda obsessed with finding all of the possible pie dishes. Anthropologie has some similar for sale right now (for a ridiculous price) and although they are super cute, it’s neat to find the original and obvious inspiration to their pieces. Especially when they were only $1 a piece!
Ok so we found this yellow flower light at an estate sale for only $7. I knew at that price, I had to have it…even though I had no idea where it would go. Andy suggested to hang it in the kitchen where we actually have a place ready for a light. We couldn’t get our track lighting to fit on the other side of the kitchen, so we’ve always had this capped hole ready for a light fixture. I never really thought I would actually find something to put there. In fact, I forgot about that spot entirely. Andy held it up once we got home and it was perfect! It was like that piece was made to one day hang in our house. Ok maybe not, but it’s pretty rad. And fits perfectly. Here are some shots of Andy holding it in place so I could snap some photos to “see” it.

See those red birds? They used to look like this:

And after a couple coats of red spray paint, they were ready to hang in our living room! A $3 project!

I guess talking about it enough to myself might have actually worked! Cause on Saturday Catherine came into our record store and asked (upon Emily’s agreement) if we would want to take over her portion of what’s left of Virago. That would mean a bigger space, but not TOO big we couldn’t handle (monetarily and otherwise). And we would get windows (the first thing I fell in love with at the mill)! And an awesome neighbor! And more space! And who knows what else! None of this is official…I’m not sure what we will have to do really. Last time we moved, we just moved. Hopefully nothing will come up for any reason why we can’t. But yeah, I’d love for this to happen before Record Store Day (April 17th)…so we’ll see. I’m going to tell Cat we are super interested on Wednesday. I think the only thing she’s unsure about is where all of her stuff will go. But maybe she can use our old space to store it in the meantime, and we can go ahead and get moved over there. Gah! Once this idea was placed in my head, it’s all we’ve been talking about! I might even have enough space to start a new new idea I have that is still in the baby stage, so I’m still forming my brain around it. But yeah! The possibilities! Yay for presenting themselves! Fingers = crossed.

Stephanie (my biz partner) and I successfully pulled off a part of Andy’s Valentine’s Day present! A couple of weeks ago we pretended to need to get together to take Jasper’s (her son) 9 month photos…however, we went back to our house and shot some “boudoir” type shots. It was a pretty hectic shoot. We were rushed to get it done and Jasper was actually with us, so we had to keep an eye on him. HOWEVER – it was a blast! And got me thinking about a lot of great ideas. When she is done nursing, we’ve decided we are going to get some wine, our cameras, and make an afternoon of it one day! I’m so excited about how close we have become. We have been friends since high school, but we are definitely connected on so many new levels now…it’s great! Anyway here are a few of the shots that I can show you. (wink wink)
*these photos are marked as friends/family on flickr so I have no idea if they will show up. Please let me know if you can’t see them!

(I got an instax camera and I’m totally in love with it!)
Also, here’s a mix I made for my Hi-Fi Weddings site, but it needs to be shared to all of you lovely folks as well!
