Finally, it’s really beginning to feel like a house again. Randall is downstairs right now finishing the drywall. Hopefully by this weekend, Andy and I will know exactly how we want to do our bathroom floors. We’ll be doing that project by ourselves. Once the bathroom floor is in we can finally get a washer and dryer (no more lugging it to and fro South Side) and a claw-foot tub. Bath nights with wine can return yay!

This is standing in the kitchen looking towards the bathroom (where the doorway is.) Along the wall to the right will be the stove and fridge…which are currently stationed between the living and dining rooms until the kitchen floor is put in. On the far right side of the photo you can see where the opening leading to the dining room is.
…

Other views of the kitchen. The one on the left is the continuation of the first picture. The right picture is looking at the kitchen from the bathroom doorway.
…

Left photo is standing in the kitchen looking through the dining room and into the living room. There will be french doors right where I’m standing to give some separation to the dining room and kitchen. The right photo is opposite – I’m standing in the living room looking through the dining room and into the kitchen.
…

I can’t wait to re-finish the staircase back to it’s original poplar wood. In the left photo I’m standing in the living room looking towards the staircase. There used to be a wall with a normal doorway in that opening. I had the wall taken out to let more light into the living room…and to show off the stairs. Through the opening to the right is the front door and to the left is the bedroom door. Eventually, I hope to get the front porch (right photo) screened in so I can leave open the front door and have the porch to be an expansion of the living room. I think the kitties will love it best.
Speaking of kitties, I took Sadie downstairs yesterday to check it all out. She seemed pretty excited…for a cat. I’ve been taking her downstairs throughout the progression of things. I’m too afraid to try that with Maple. She’s still a spaz of sorts.

Insulation is done. Drywall was started today. yay! We were told they’d be done by next weekend. Hopefully we’ll be able to start ripping up the carpet and getting rid of the musty dog smells that becomes so pungent when it rains. That last picture in the quad is of the window pulls that run along all of the windows. Luckily the quote to get new windows was astonishing, so we will live with their character until there is an absolute need for new windows.

Luckily Andy’s car can fit just the right amount of wood we needed to finish off a header between the living and dining room. Those are our tomato plants which we planted ‘upside-down.’ One seems to have plenty of leaves, while the other has a few actual tomatoes. On the way home from what turned into a rather long errand run, we were stopped by a train.

Go! 31.05.
Here’s the link to the article in Go! about Vertical House…and also one about our show we are having tonight. Unfortunately, they got one of the band names wrong. Barnstormers, not Americana (where they got that, no idea).

At first, I didn’t think much of it. In the morning the bushes out front were plain but by the time I got home, there were yellow and purple flowers. And then I thought of their name: “Fouroclocks,” and it chimed in my head. So one afternoon I waited until four and sure enough…right on time.

Another surprise to us are these orange lilies that popped up the other day. The purple bell shaped flower is a new one to our garden and I’m not even sure what it is. It was too pretty to pass up even though it didn’t have a name tag, and no one seemed to know anything more than “belles” of somesort. I’ll have to search for it among my gardening books. Or ask granny…she’ll know. The pretty red flower was once just one little loner, but now has nine or so blossoming buddies.

Andy’s parents are kitten-sitting the newest edition to the (extended) family. It’s Bailey (our niece’s) seven week old treasure from heaven name Sophie. I haven’t gotten to see her yet…well, except the pics Andy took.

That’s the tiny little puff-ball sitting on his foot.

After the final show of The Bhagavad Meat Loaf on Saturday, Why Are We Building Such A Big Ship? played. They are so good, and it was better than the first time we saw them back in New Orleans…where they are from. I spent $70 on merch and stuff to sell in the store. Walt (singer and accordian) had been through Huntsville before with his other band and he said WAWBSABS (haha) would be more than glad to come back.
It was a fun way to end a fun show.
Corry Lee Smith took some great photos during one of the performances of The Bhagavad Meat Loaf. He’s hosting them here.

In other news, I found this site, and I thought it was pretty neat. You can send yourself an email in the future. Too bad you couldn’t send yourself a package or something…that would be awesome.

Yesterday, Andy and I went to Birmingham with our friend Greg. A couple of weeks ago I was telling Greg what kind of fridge I was searching for to complete my kitchen look. One of those old Frigidaire models that are short and metal. Lo and behold, he had one. And he said we could have it. For free. So, we took the truck down to B’ham and loaded the thing up. It needs a paint touch up, but so does our sink unit…so really, I couldn’t ask for more. Photos soon to come, probably.
Neal is downstairs right now working on the finishing touches of the frame work so we can call the insulation guy to come at the end of this week. Which might mean walls next week. Which might mean a house soon!
