Stars Game

After La Alemeda we all went to the Stars game (a local baseball team) because it was Free Bobblehead Night! Thinking it would be some player on the team, we were all a bit surprised to end up holding a bobblehead of Microwave Dave haha. So, photo fun ensued…cause what else do you do with it?

Introducing Mrs. Lewis 13.08.

I had a blast at Stephanie (and Daniel’s) wedding! It was such a lovely afternoon full of love! And one of the best parts, I got to sit with my husband as we witnessed our friends come together! This is the first wedding I’ve been to in a long while where I wasn’t running around and wondering about angles.

…but I couldn’t help to snap a couple 🙂

Saying Goodbye :(

It was SO great to see Nicole (and Justin, her husband) while they were here for the wedding. I miss her so much, but it’s wonderful that whenever we are back together, it’s as if nothing has changed. They are thinking of possibly coming here in a couple of years and they certainly got the encouragement while visiting. Andy and I had a BBQ after Stephanie and Daniel’s wedding and all of our friends were convincing them to just go ahead and move here already.

Steph, you had a lovely wedding! I hope you had a blast! And I hope you two newlyweds have a terrific honeymoon! I love you darling!

Our House Featured! 13.08.

The other day I saw that this cute little icon on flickr had favorited several photos of our house. After clicking on her stream and having an eyegasm for her new sofa, I clicked the blog link to read about it! And the rest, as they say, is history. I added her on flickr, and she asked to feature my home on her blog! But of course! What an honor!

So, yesterday, on my dad’s birthday, Liz featured our house 🙂

Life! 09.08.

Thursday night I hosted my dear friend Stephanie’s bachelorette party. It was nice to have a room full of girls dishing out tips and stories and good times! I hope Stephanie and Daniel had a wonderful time at their wedding yesterday and I wish them a happy honeymoon!!

Of course we cleaned the house to get ready for the party…and I took photos, what’s new?

Dining Room

After moving a small couch upstairs, our fireplace is now open in the dining room. We shifted the table over so it’s center in the room…it’s amazing how much bigger the room feels now!

Bedroom

We rearranged the bedroom some. Really, there’s only two places the bed can go. This way works out best during the summer because we can feel the fan much better. I’ll post the rest of the room, and if you see any better ideas for arrangements, I’m all ears!!

On a Break… 01.08.

I’m in between wedding festivities right now. Today I witnessed the groom, Chirag, ride in on a white horse while the ones closest to him danced in their saris and tuxedos. The aunties sang while the drummer banged. The love and kindness radiated from the crowd. Family from India, and all over the US came together during these past few days to celebrate such a spiritual and happy time for them.

Apparently, Nancy and Chirag were legally married two months ago in Chicago, where they had a traditional Irish Catholic ceremony. That’s was for Nancy’s side…whereas Chirag’s side goes all out, especially since this was really all for show since they were already wed. Weddings are a huge celebration that usually last a week. Here in the states, it’s usually shortened to three days. But it’s still three days of incredible sights!

From the Mehndi, to the praying, to the singing, to the family ties, to the ornate saris, to the food, to the extravagant decor…there is literally something for every sense. Apparently the caterer came from New Jersey (one of Chirag’s favorite restaurants), the priest from LA, the decorator and band from Chicago.

As exhausted as I am thus far, I’m actually sad it’s ending. Even though most of the family doesn’t speak English, the love and appreciation is clearly communicated. I have about an hour and a half before I head up to the mill where they are having the big dance party/reception. I can only imagine what scale party this will be…hah, they know how to throw a party!

I have over 5,500 photos at this point and the night isn’t over yet. I asked Chirag if I could have at least a month to sort and process, and he certainly understood. I think Stephanie has about the same amount. I can only imagine how many we will give them. I’m looking forward to having this experience under my belt, especially sine it’s not one that comes around every day.

Alrighty, it’s on to party!

Countdowns! 30.07.

2 hours until Mehndi and the start of festivities for Chirag and Nancy’s Hindu wedding
1 day until the wedding itself, with a guest list of 750 people
6 days until I get to see one of my besties, Nicole!
7 days until Steph’s Bachelorette Party that I’m hosting
9 days until a maternity shoot in the morning
9 days until Steph gets married!!!!

I’m so excited to photograph this Hindu wedding. Like, I’m preparing my mind to be blown. We’re providing both digital and medium format shots…which will make for a great boost to our portfolio. We decided to offer a “film package” that can be combined with any of our other packages, if people are interested. My heart is still in film and the processing, so it’ll be exciting to be able to offer this to other folks that feel the same.

My friend, Alice, asked me today if I’d be willing to capture her during her pregnancy, as well as the birth, and every few months for the first year. I’m beyond thrilled! Alice had the adorable black/white/green wedding at Lowe Mill. She has decided to get a mid wife and have a natural birth. This is the route I’m hoping to take, so I’m glad I’ll have a first hand experience with this. Plus, capturing an actual birth? Wowza!

We (White Rabbit Studios) have had pretty good luck so far merging our businesses and creating this new name for us. We’re lining up appointments and our calendars are quickly filling. Friends are getting engaged left and right and asking us to capture their day, and that truly is such a blessing! Having our friends trust us to photograph their Big Day means the world to both of us.

Plant Bliss 30.07.

The other day Andy and I went to our favorite Plant Zoo, Bennett Nurseries. I was on the hunt for a cute fern to put on our porch table. Of course we found some other treasures along the way (large veggie plants for $3!!)

I found the fern I was looking for!

New Fern New Fern

I adore everything about Echinacea, so we got some for the front porch!

Echinacea

The house across the street is undergoing some restoration to the outside. I’m not sure what all they are doing, but they’ve ripped off all of the siding, added insulation, and now have plywood in place. I’m glad I snapped these when I did…I’m a sucker for photos like this, and the next day everything was covered up! I didn’t feel brave enough to sneak a peak at their building permit, but I’m curious to know what all they are planning to do.

Restoration Restoration

Last fall we planted our first Hydrangea plant, and this year it grew bigger! This is our first whole season with it, and it’s doing wonderful! Each year, I’d like to gather and dry out blossoms from the garden and give them each their own frame and note what they are and what year we grew it. I’d like for my dining room walls to eventually be covered with framed mementos from our garden each year. I think it’d be a great way to remember and commemorate what we are doing at this point in our lives.

Hydrangea

Our St. John’s Wort is taking over it’s bed! I love the bright, yellow flowers…you can bet we’ll be framing a stalk of it 🙂

St. John's Wort

We have Four O’Clocks along the front of our house, and now coming up along the side of the porch. They are awesome! They smell fantastic and are very prolific. We haven’t done a thing to them, and every year they fill in so beautifully!

House, Hoose, Heese

Our Four O'Clocks

Four O'Clock

I love it when the yellow and pink mix and create neat flowers 🙂 I’d really like to add some white ones in the mix eventually.

Backyard Canopy

The limbs on this tree in the backyard are almost to the ground…well, when it rains they drag on the ground! It creates such a beautiful canopy.

Backyard

Again, the trees provide such a nice screen.
