This Saturday 08.07.

Purgatory Lounge is this Saturday (the 12th). Josh and I are singing a song he wrote (and we used to sing as The Lightbulbs) called “Keel Hollow”. I was planning on doing a Talking Heads song (Lady Don’t Mind), but after a margarita or two, I had the idea of American Gothic characters that stabbed each other to death…or something. Josh liked it, so voila! I’m actually way more excited for the show now. I love Talking Heads, but I wasn’t completely confident singing the song. I’m no David Byrne by any means.

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to go to some thrift stores to look for a black dress and a vest similar to hers.

Yesterday we also went swimming again at Ashley’s. I turn into a giddy 5 year old when I get around a pool. I love swimming, especially with friends…especially when all of this fun is only a bike ride away.

Crash Boom Bang Theatre Did it for Skits and Giggles 06.07.

I’m on the best drug.

The adrenaline rush after a show sticks with me for a while. Last night was, simply put, perfect. Although there were two technical difficulties (a light blew oh so randomly…but Chris covered well, and our smoke bombs didn’t go off at the end because the ghetto rigged wiring was rigged enough) but you can’t let those things bring the energy of the show down. And they certainly didn’t! Not to mention our first full run through with all of the tech requirement (which were a TON) was last night at 7:30. That’s right, 3 hours before the show was going to start. The run through was thankfully just that. Half way through, the computer with all of our sound effects crashed. I don’t know all of the details but it was all resolved by 9pm.

I was kinda wondering how a 10:30pm show would draw, but boy…did it ever. I don’t know the exact count, but it certainly was larger than our general outcome. A huge factor of the successful show was because of audience participation. We had a (rough) SNL type set up, with two cameras on the sides filming and projecting on a screen. Then, of course, there was the live action taking place on the stage. There were 5 live action skits, and filmed shorts in between each one. The finale was a skit entitled “The Merlin Springer Show.” This was where the audience deserved a big fat kiss. They were chanting, booing (a good thing!), reacting just like we wanted.

After the show there was a big dance party, and those are always fun.

Luckily, I get to feel this high a couple of times a month…with Crash Boom Bang and Purgatory Lounge.

Someone donated a mac to the Flying Monkey sound/light booth, so some of us were goofing off with Photo Booth while we were recording the sound effects. haha I had never played with one before…boy, are they addicting or what?

We didn’t get a whole lot of photos from this show because the booth was pretty crowded between Andy, Matt, Jon, and Don having to be up there…along with all the equipment, which included our camera/tripod and a video camera/tripod. They all had a few jobs to do and since our camera was set up in a corner, whenever anyone had a free hand to hit the shutter button, *click* a memory made.

July 4th 06.07.

For the Fourth, my parents got a hotel room at the Westin at Bridge Street. Andy and I went out there to have lunch with them. We were going to try to make it back there that night for the fireworks, but it didn’t work out. Apparently, Bridge Street actually reached it’s capacity and they had to turn away folks. I can only imagine how many people were there for them to be at their limit. My parents said the fireworks were incredible. I actually wasn’t feeling that great come evening time, so we spent the night relaxing at our house.

Our garden is producing cucumbers non stop! We’ve acquired more jars, and this time we’re going to try sliced pickles and such. The photo below shows how green our harvests have been lately. We’re still getting a bunch of tomatoes, which we continue to add to our homemade salsa…that is absolutely delicious!

Horror Movie Filming 29.06.

Over the past week I was in a horror movie! My character’s name was Jana and she met a group of people at a bar and eventually got killed with most of the group. I’ve always wanted to do a horror movie and the Dead Worker’s Party are taking their sweet time (which is understandable) so it was fun to get invited to this project. The title of the movie is in limbo, but I think it’ll come out great!

Here are some stills.

DAY ONE
Bar scenes shot at The Chicken Shack. This place has quite a history among North Alabama. The Parcus family opened the 24 hour alcohol retreat and boy…if walls could talk, I’m sure this place could write a few novels.

Random 29.06.

I finally found a vase that looks a bit better with my fireplace mantle dogwood light, however it blends in too much. I’m thinking about spray painting it a turquoise color that will match the chairs in the living room. It was only $1 so I have room to play around. That photo of our backyard shows you how much we need to clean up. I potted a bunch of plants this year, but I still don’t really have a “place” for them. Our porch just now got freed up from housing the tub, so soon we’ll set it up all pretty and I can place several of the plants around on the porch.

I have just about finished up the wedding invites we are doing for a friend. Andy designed it, and I gocco’d it! Tonight I will put the final touch, and pass them off to Rhi tomorrow. I love the spice color she’s using, and I’m glad there’s an ink that matched it perfectly. I ordered a ton of bulbs and screens, so after tomorrow we are going to make a bunch of new business cards for us…record store, photog/design, and real estate. I love gocco. And yay! Our tub is inside and ready to get hooked up. We are still searching for our faucet and I’m picky…so it’ll be a few weeks before we can enjoy it with water. The kitties enjoy laying in the tub as is haha.
