Vertical House Wedding Photography version 1.0 is alive!
There are still some tweaks to work out, so I’m making an ongoing list. If you have any suggestions or feedback, PLEASE provide!!
Likes:
- the icons – they will become roll overs that will show the page…"photos" "contact" "about us". I’m such a sucker for icons. The bride silhouette we actually used in our wedding as the cover image for the mix cds we made. I’ve wanted to use her again ever since!
- the scrollbar – the less clicks, the better! I personally can’t stand when the photos are buried beneath 4 menus. Also, when they are divided into names…I don’t know the people, so how do I know which to click on. If I do any dividing, it’ll be into "Bridal/Groom" "Wedding" and whatever else.
- the background patterns – I’m also such a sucker for patterns.
- the simplicity – while I think some flash sites are nice, for the most part, I find them a pain. To tell people to re-size their page or even open a new one with loud music blaring can be bad for those poking around at work or the library. Especially when you (like I do) open several tabs during search options.
- the photo sizes – I know it takes a while to load (see dislikes), but I love the size of the photos. I think it allows the captured moment to shine through without having to squint
- the control – the viewer has complete control to what photo they want to look at. No fighting the auto slide show to go back to that one image you gasped at.
- the contact form – hopefully brides will find it convenient to use and I’ll have the majority of information I need immediately. Plus, I think it’ll help me communicate back with them.
Dislikes:
- loading time – there are a lot of photos, and it takes a while to load. Any suggestions? I’m looking into Ajax to use a dynamic photo load. However, Ajax is like a brand new toy…any tips from you web gurus out there? Or any additional things to possibly try?
I’m not totally opposed to incorporating flash, but from what I understand dynamic flash would be best, right? I just want a very clean, slick photo presentation where you don’t have to click a bunch to view the images. So yeah, I’m totally open to suggestions and I appreciate any feedback!

We’ve had our windows open for a month straight and the air conditioner hasn’t been on since August.

Andy and I went to Lewter’s Hardware Store today to look at gas inserts. They have some that look like coal piles that fit perfectly into coal sized fireplaces (like ours). Hopefully we’ll be able to get one and possibly put it in the bedroom before the winter chill gets here. Lewter’s is fantastic. Numerous times we’ve gone to Home Depoop and they’ve been clueless for what we were looking for. Walk into Lewter’s and in five seconds you have what you need in hand. Great service since 1929. AND they have several cats wondering around! The guy above would not let me take his picture properly…every time I got close, so did he! It was cute.

We have a shower downstairs! My dad (pictured above) came over and helped us hook it up on Monday. It was definitely a three person job that took a good chunk of the day. Especially because we had no instructions…only a photo I found online to go by. But everything worked, nothing leaked, and the shower is great! Andy found the perfect shower hooks and I swear they were made for us. They alternate with “Hot” and “Cold”. Now to just hook up the sink and we’ll have a completed bathroom downstairs…

Remember when I had to drown in my tub…and someone got stabbed in my living room…and people were bound and gagged upstairs? Here’s why:

Crash Boom Bang Theatre hosts, “So You Wanna be a Slasher…” An innovative live action Haunted House of sorts. Imagine you have signed up for a once in a lifetime slasher seminar. A charismatic psycho killer will walk you through the in’s and out’s of his profession, display the latest in methods of madness and give you hands on instruction throughout his custom training facility located at Lowe Mill, 2211 Seminole Drive, Huntsville Alabama.
This wacko’s workshop contains realistic violence and all the things you love about a traditional Spook House so make sure you got what it takes to be a real “cutthroat”. Who knows, you might even get the chance to make your first kill this Oct. 24, 25, 31st and Nov. 1st. The show runs from 9-12 midnight, each night and is definitely for mature audiences. Admission is 10 dollars. Check out: crashboombangtheatre.com for more info.

I love when I have clients that want to look in the historic neighborhoods in town, especially when they are my friends! Last week Andy came with me since we were looking at two houses in Five Points. And it totally gave me an idea for bridal shots! Perhaps I can convince brides to pose in these awesome, vacant houses where it was originally built to let the light flood in perfectly. I will pass this idea along to the upcoming brides I’m working with and see if any want to. More perks of being a Realtor!
::looks towards Stephanie:: (have you found your dress, m’dear?)

The house on McCullough was originally used as the professor’s dormitory for Williams College in early 1900s. However, it was most recently rented out as a four-plex. There was quite a bit left behind…including that weapon of somesorts that Andy is modeling. Pretty odd.
The yard is filled with Eucalyptus trees! Beautiful leaves, but they don’t smell so great when they bloom. The house boasted over 8 fireplaces, and only one had the original tiles (that I drooled on). I wonder if the current owners stripped all of the others of their tiles. There were also pocket doors missing. It’s so sad when houses lose their original qualities so someone can make a pretty penny. At least most historical home owners that plan on restoring can win the various scavenger hunts that arise.

After 7 hours of uploading (the original sized files) Alice and Donald’s Wedding is now online. She was such a wonderful and smiley bride! All the ladies got ready at her sister’s house and I was like a kid in a candy store. It’s an older home that has a similar story as ours (originally a duplex, but has since been restored to a single family). And the lighting! Talk about a photographer’s dream!
I’m so grateful to Alice for letting me photograph her special day. And to her family for being so warm and welcoming…they are a riot! Again, I learned a lot from this wedding, but it was great to remember and act on the notes I gave myself from previous weddings.

Last Sunday I met Alice at the mill to take her bridal portraits. Since her fiance (Donald) had already seen her in her dress and stuff, we figured it’d be much easier (and way more relaxing) to take her photos on a day other than the wedding. Alice’s theme is a 50’s black and white wedding…I can’t wait! She looks stunning in her dress and the veil she made for herself.
haha we even got to take a few shots on the Dead Workers Party’s new green screen!
You can see additional photos here, if interested.
Now for the wedding on Saturday! Yay!
