So apparently Maple does not have a uterus. She went in yesterday to get spayed, but when Andy went to pick her up at the end of the day, the doctor told him they couldn’t find it. She also said there didn’t look to be any previous incisions. I’ve been looking on the internet for other cases like this, but have had no luck yet…unless she/he’s a little Hermi. (Laura, have you ever came across this in studies or anything?)

I feel horrible she had to still go through all of the surgery for nothing. Her cut is longer than usual because they had to ‘look around.’ She was really doped up yesterday and it was hard to watch. She could barely stand up, couldn’t walk in a straight line, and had violent thrashings.

She’s a bit more like herself today, thank gosh, but this just adds more to the mystery of Maple.

that’s all the dr said?? “nothing to take out, have a nice day”

well, andy was the one that picked her up, and he said he wished i was there so i knew what to ask, etc. i think he was just kinda too in shock to think about things to ask. haha. i’m going to call on monday and ask more questions and make sure we don’t have to pay the full cost or anything.

As far as I know, the only reason a cat wouldn’t have a uterus is if it was already removed (or if the cat is male, but I think you guys have that sorted out by now). Were there no ovaries either? For a spay the doctor takes out the uterus and the ovaries. Did they check for an incision scar before or after they opened her up? I keep asking questions, and you probably don’t know anything because you haven’t called them back yet. Do you know how old she is?

I won’t be able to call until Monday, but Andy said the doctor didn’t mention anything about ovaries either. He said they did look for a scar, but didn’t find one before they opened her up…however, when I was looking closely around her shaved tummy patch I saw what could have been an incision (so what they thought it was I don’t know.) The doctor put her at 6 months old with “whiskers as mature as she has.”

Personally, I don’t think we should be charged the full amount for the spay. I understand the cost of materials and meds, but $185 to open my kitty to find out there’s nothing there seems a bit much. I haven’t discussed that with them and I have no idea what they will say.

If I could do it all over again I would go back to the vet that took care of Sadie.

shes probably an alien…there, problem solved.

geez…what a relief! man, i don’t know what i’d do without you.

lauramastodon 24.09.

You definitely shouldn’t be charged full price. They should really only charge you for anesthesia. Which vet did you take Sadie to?

admin 24.09.

um….actually, i don’t remember the vet name. it’s off the parkway between bob wallace and drake.
