The perks of being a Realtor 14.08.

Over the weekend I went into the Kildare mansion…this time, with a camera. Andy and I were lucky enough to go inside once when Cedric was trying to sell some of his dad’s classical records. Since it was his private residence at the time, we didn’t get to linger for too long. However, now that it is unoccupied, we perused the house from top to bottom. I actually showed the house to a few people on the historic society in Huntsville. All of us are concerned who will eventually get hold of this place. Built in 1886 for James O’Shaughnessy, the house has been a summer home for the McCormick’s, a hotel, various businesses, and even a massage parlor in the 70’s. Despite the location, I think it would make a wonderful bed & breakfast. While I’m not too worried about the neighborhood, I know others might be. Whatever ends up happening to this house, I sure as hell hope that it won’t be torn apart and sold piece by piece. It’ll be a nail bitter waiting to see the outcome. The architecture on this grand home is elegantly elaborate and boasts such a romantic interior.

Any investors in LJ land?

Since there are over 50 rooms and 23,000 square feet of space, I’ll do the best I can to organize these photos in a walk-through manner and save the details for the end. Because of it’s sheer size and the time I had, I didn’t photograph every room or much of the basement. It would take at least a whole day to truly document the house.

for some reason i think my mom was in this house recently. she has some clients who buy and restore homes and i think this is one that they may have been interested in. either that, or it was another huge house. it’s so pretty! where is it?

I’m so jearous that you got to go inside? I always thought that house is so tacky, it’s almost cool.
I didn’t know the inside is clean. That’s a surprise.
But yeah, I don’t like the neighborhood. Chris doesn’t even like it when I go to the Kroger in the night. My former landroad’s sister got attacked at the parking lot. Now, if you go there in the night, security gard will escort you. Chris’s friend has a bar in the neighborhood and is having a headache by his customers.

Also, I feel some curse or something about the house. Like, the person who built the house bankrupted and had to leave the house and move back to Nashville(?). Since then nobody had it for long time. If my memory is correct.

I meant the Kroger on Oak wood. And the sister had pepper spray, so she protected herself.

And I think “Bankrupcy” isn’t correct. It was some kind of financial probelem or so. I think…..

jesus, what is that house going for?

It’s my future home!

it’s off of oakwood, on kildare. first house on the left. back in the day, it used to be on 150 acres…imagine.

admin 15.08.

yeah, we had friends that actually used to live on kildare, and they said there were a lot of break ins and crazy people.

only $369,900. and seriously, for that house, not so bad. if this house was downtown, it would easily be $1.5 million.

I have always loved that house. Thanks for all the pics of the interior – the wallpaper is awesome!

I have also heard that Huntsville’s first head shop was located there.

you’re welcome!

yes, i fell in love with the wallpaper. especially in that master bathroom. i think it’s cause i’m trying to pick a print for our master and there are just way too many patterns i’ve fallen in love with that are historic and not in print.

that’s a very interesting fact, i did not know that!
