A Spring Weekend 08.03.

I love this weather! This weekend we’ve slept with the windows open. It’s nice to fall asleep feeling the breeze wisp through the house. And awake to chirping birds and streaks of morning sun. I’m totally a morning person as the weather gets warmer.

Saturday night we had a BBQ! It was a lot of fun, with great company. My friend, Ashley (ironically), and I share the same birthday (today!) as well as a growing list of other coincidences. So I guess it was a B’day BBQ. I think this should become (at least) a bimonthly thing for the summers. It’s always great to cook with people and potlucks are fun ways to learn new recipes and such. Not to mention memorable times with friends!

can you tell I like the “aftermath” scenarios?

I’m so ready to plant! I found out our heirloom seed order will be here in a week or so. I’ve been debating if I want to do raised beds for these strands, or put them straight into the ground. Apparently our yard once housed one of the prettiest gardens in Huntsville…back in the 70s, when Andy’s dad bought it. So, I’m betting on good soil. So as of now, I’m leaning to straight in the ground, mulch, soaker hose. And grow!

Today I noticed some of last year’s plantings are coming back already.

st. john’s wort & cat mint

curled parsley & hopefully bleeding hearts

day lilies are getting bigger…and seems like more than last year

I let Sadie and Maple come outside while I was taking pictures, and Porch Kitty was in the neighbor’s yard! She’s so pretty in the late afternoon sun. All three cats actually got pretty close to one another without much commotion. I’m secretly hoping Sadie and P. Kiddy are actually sisters.

These daffodils are always the first to bloom in our yard. For my birthday, I got a Pineapple Plant! How exciting! I’ve been reading about pineapples, and they are very interesting…basically, just root the cap of a pineapple, and voila! This guy has got a while to go before the fruit will be ripe, but it’ll be a fun plant for the summer.

how meowch is that kitty in the window?

willow tree leaves!

the yellow jasmine has come out of hibernation and is beginning to climb again
