Crooked Letters and Humpbacks 21.03.

The day before my birthday Andy and I woke up at the crack of dawn to head to our neighboring state of Mississippi. We met up with my family before noon at the funeral home where we would have the service for my lovely grandmother Brody. After the sweet, yet tearful, goodbye Ruth Deale Brody was laid to rest next to her husband and mother. Losing a loved one is never easy for anyone, but it seemed especially hard watching my father have to bury his mother. Years (and years) ago my mom lost her dad, but I was too young to really comprehend what was happening at the time. Anyway, it’s never easy witnessing your parents cry.

The rest of the afternoon was spent with family over a delicious lunch at the oldest restaurant in Meridian Mississippi, Weidmann’s. My parents opted to stay another night (to “catch up” with their old stomping grounds), but Andy and I got on the road to home late afternoon. We made a pit stop in Gardendale to check out a record store that had just opened up. After a bit of vinyl retail therapy, we made it home with the setting sun.
