{"id":231,"date":"2007-06-28T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-29T02:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/therealverticalhouse.com\/blog\/?p=231"},"modified":"2007-06-28T19:00:00","modified_gmt":"2007-06-29T02:00:00","slug":"left-aligned-not-centered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/therealverticalhouse.com\/blog\/?p=231","title":{"rendered":"Left Aligned; Not Centered."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I love late afternoon thunderstorms.<br \/>\nEspecially in the Alabama summer.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s a nice relief after the sun blanketed hot day.<br \/>\nMid-day or morning storms just lead to muggy and miserable days.<br \/>\nA vacation-esque evening begins once the sun has began to descend and the clouds roll in.<br \/>\nEach thunder roll shakes the insides as the rain plays the soundtrack.<br \/>\nAll of this<br \/>\nseems to be intensified<br \/>\nsitting behind the brick walls<br \/>\nand huge glass windows<br \/>\nof a historic mill.<\/p>\n<p>Looking through the wavy glass panes I wonder how many people sat here before me<br \/>\nduring a repeated session with the sky.<br \/>\nWas it a cold, icy rain with harsh taps against the building?<br \/>\nOr did each drop of rain quickly evaporate on the arid Alabama soil?<br \/>\nWas the rain and thunder and flashes of electricity wanted,<br \/>\nor feared?<br \/>\nWhat did the rain land on?<br \/>\nCotton?<br \/>\nSoil?<br \/>\nPerhaps pavement?<\/p>\n<p>Of course I don&#8217;t have the camera with me<br \/>\nso I&#8217;ll have to do what I did before my digital days<br \/>\nand recap this event<br \/>\nwith letters.<br \/>\nThe sky is a wonderful, peaceful shade of light blue<br \/>\nwith a darker hue shading the background.<br \/>\nQuick blinks of white illuminate the green of the grass to an almost neon shade,<br \/>\nbut just as quickly returning to the saturated green<br \/>\nwith each tear from the sky.<br \/>\nThe rain hits sporadically along the metals roofs that line the building.<br \/>\nI try to sway along<br \/>\nwith the rhythm<br \/>\nof mother nature,<br \/>\nbut she&#8217;s off beat sometimes.<br \/>\nThen again, she always seems to create<br \/>\nher own unique melody<br \/>\neach day.<br \/>\nNonetheless it makes for a soothing sound.<\/p>\n<p>Glancing down I can see rust streaks<br \/>\nfrom the previous years&#8217; moisture<br \/>\ncoming in contact with the shiny, pristine metal.<br \/>\nThe reds and oranges blend together to create<br \/>\neven the most unique brown.<br \/>\nThe air is thick inside,<br \/>\nbut only until a gust brings relief<br \/>\nto the sweat beads<br \/>\ngathered around the hairline.<\/p>\n<p>All these great sensations don&#8217;t last long enough.<br \/>\nThe heat traps the rain from falling and forces it out as a haze,<br \/>\nwhile the breeze backs away to emphasize the loss of refreshment.<br \/>\nThe sky&#8217;s belches slowly get quieter<br \/>\nas if it has finally digested the storm,<br \/>\nand moved on.<br \/>\nThe quick flashes of light that seem to come straight out of a wizard&#8217;s wand<br \/>\nno longer play peek-a-boo<br \/>\nwith dark corners. <\/p>\n<p>The earth loses that silent feeling and begins to rotate again.<br \/>\nIt always seems<br \/>\nto<br \/>\ngo<br \/>\nfaster<br \/>\nwhen it starts up.<\/p>\n<p>My wrist has been twitching for three days now.
